How To Comply with CAN-SPAM: An Overview
The following information is paraphrased from the Federal Trade Commission’s site. Visit ftc.gov to read their summary of the CAN-SPAM Act as it pertains to commercial emailers. The following are meant as guidelines only, and should not be interpreted as a full rendering of the CAN-SPAM Act.

There are four basics requirements set forward by CAN-SPAM:
- All header information must be accurate and reflect the originator of the email.
- Subject lines must reflect what is contained in the email, and not mislead the recipient as to the contents of the email.
- You must give the recipient a clear means by which to opt-out of future email.
- All commercial email must be clearly identified as such, and the physical postal address of the sender must be included.
The best method of newsletter subscription is a double opt-in. This basically involves having visitors sign-up to receive email from you. The first email you send them prompts them to confirm that they want to receive future email from you.
